CTU Lecture Rooms – “Czech Technical University in Prague – Reconstruction of Lecture Rooms B280 and B286”
After returning to school desks, the Faculty of Civil Engineering students at the Czech Technical University in Prague will enjoy more modern auditoriums. After earlier repairs to the perimeter cladding of Building A, or the reconstruction of the lecture halls in Building C, the reconstruction of the original lecture halls in Building B also took place. In addition to replacing the roof and glazed cladding, we also modernized the interiors, improved the audiovisual equipment, the acoustic properties of the rooms, and replaced the electrical installations.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Thákurova Street in Prague consists of four interconnected buildings. The dominant feature is the fourteen-story high-rise Building A, followed by the nine-story Building B, the two-story Building C, and the two-story laboratory Building D. While other buildings had undergone reconstruction and modernization of materials in the past, the two one-story lecture halls having been annexed to the southern facade of Building B were awaiting such rebuilding.
As part of the reconstruction, we did not significantly interfere with the existing load-bearing structures. The main changes concerned the modification of the ceiling structure above the auditoriums, where we removed part of the structure and replaced it with a lighter one. We also modernized the floor structures and replaced the side service staircase and the ramp for the canteen on the first floor. The perimeter glass cladding of the auditorium buildings was also reconstructed. The new perimeter cladding has internal and external blinds, which ensure enhanced thermal comfort and allow sufficient dimming should a projection take place. In the exterior, the auditoriums’ gable wall is decorated with a mosaic, which we have preserved.
In the middle of the lecture rooms, we newly concreted staircase steps. We replaced the original wooden wall and window sills with acoustic tiles. We have installed new students’ seats with an integrated high-current installation for charging their laptops. A system of fixed and sliding boards was installed in front of the rooms, which are used for teaching as well as conference halls.
Along with the reconstruction of lecture halls B280 and B286, we also modernized the bathrooms between the entrances to the lecture halls.
