Reconstruction of the School of music and arts in Uherské Hradiště

The primary School of music and arts in Uherské Hradiště has been re-opened. The reconstructed premises now offer rooms for individuals and groups, concert halls, or a new yard. The building dates back to the 19th century and had to be closed in the past for its bad technical condition. We have interconnected its historical parts with modern elements.

The Neo-Renaissance building from the end of the 19th century stands on the Mariánské square in Uherské Hradiště, it had originally served as an apartment building. Later the School of music and arts moved in, nevertheless, they had to leave the premises due to an unsatisfactory technical condition of the building. Now, the School has been reopened thanks to an extensive reconstruction of the overall building.

The court extension, the annex behind the main staircase, all non-bearing partitions and walls in the individual floors, or the false ceiling in the passageway of the first overground floor, where newly a visible vault is retained – all were torn down. We had to reinforce the overhead structures above the second and floor overground floor. The existing wooden ceiling beams had not been suitable for the way the building was utilized. In the four-floor building, we built twenty-three individual classrooms, a classroom for music theory classes, two group classrooms, a hall for musical shows and performances, and a new concert hall. A new lift now ensures a barrier-free access to all the floors. The reconstruction touched also the inner yard of the building, where a new stage has been established.

The architectural plan and the reconstruction took the history of the building into consideration, as well as its original appearance, into which we lightly included some modern elements.
